The dry bulk market exhibited strong momentum this week, particularly in the Capesize and Panamax segments, with the BCI 5TC reaching a year-to-date high of USD 54,801 amid robust demand from South Brazil and West Africa. The Panamax market also strengthened, with the P5TC climbing to USD 22,035, supported by firm coal demand from Australia and Indonesia. Overall, the Affinity Dry Index rose by 20.1 points to 325.8, reflecting a positive sentiment across various segments, although challenges persist in the Supramax market due to limited fresh inquiries despite steady rates. Additionally, geopolitical tensions in the Black Sea are reshaping global wheat trade, pushing Asian buyers towards alternative sources, which is exerting upward pressure on prices, as seen with Chicago wheat futures surging approximately 35 per cent since late June.
