The Capesize market exhibited strong momentum, with the BCI 5TC rising from USD 41,395 to USD 45,816 amid tighter tonnage availability and strong owner sentiment influenced by Typhoon Dolphin. The Atlantic market also strengthened, with demand supporting rates. Conversely, the Panamax sector saw positive gains driven by limited tonnage in the Atlantic, despite increased ballaster supply expected to limit upside potential. Supramax/Ultramax markets remained subdued, with rates pressured by limited fresh inquiries, while the Handysize segment faced challenges from a disbalance between tonnage and cargo availability, contributing to declining rates. Geopolitical tensions and adverse weather conditions are threatening grain and agricultural output globally, leading to concerns over food inflation, and tightening supply chains.
