The Capesize market experienced significant pressure, with the BCI 5TC dropping 19.3 per cent to USD 30,128 amid weak demand and elevated tonnage levels. Rates fell across both basins, particularly in the Pacific, failing to recover despite minor inquiries. Meanwhile, the Panamax segment showed mixed results, with the P5TC closing at USD 20,827 after experiencing softer trends in the Atlantic, while the Supramax sector gained momentum, supported by strong Asian demand. The Handysize index also reported increases, driven by firm activity in East Coast South America. Ukraine’s steel industry remains severely disrupted due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, significantly impacting production and limiting export capabilities, with steel exports down over 40 per cent year-on-year, further complicating recovery prospects.
