The latest orderbook data shows little change in propulsion trends for most shipping segments. Dry bulk carriers remain heavily reliant on conventional fuels, with 22% of vessels fitted with scrubbers and only 4.2% using alternative fuels - reflecting minimal uptake of LNG, methanol, or biofuels. Tankers show slightly broader diversification, now at 28.9% scrubbers and 6.9% alternative fuels, though traditional propulsion continues to dominate.
In contrast, container vessels maintain the strongest shift toward next‑generation fuels, with alternative fuel adoption rising to 46.6%, far outpacing scrubbers at 13.1%, driven largely by LNG and methanol in larger TEU classes. The LPG orderbook continues to lead in fuel transition, with 56.4% of ships designed for alternative fuels and only 4.2% equipped with scrubbers.
