The dry cargo market on the West Coast South America (WCSA) is experiencing upward momentum driven by tightening tonnage and increasing rates. This week, Supramax and Handysize rates in WCSA have shown significant week-on-week increases, currently ranging from USD 21,500 to USD 29,000 per day for Supramax and USD 14,000 to USD 21,000 for Handysize. With continued support from NOPAC and ECSA markets, as well as prevailing low tonnage counts, further rate increases are anticipated if cargo volumes rise. On a broader scale, port congestion remains a concern, impacting operational efficiency and potentially adding pressure to supply chains, particularly as US and South American exports navigate increased competitive pressures.
