WCSA dry cargo rates exhibited mixed trends as the market opened the week with optimism, though activity was initially hampered by the US and Canadian public holiday. Handysize segments showed increased competition due to oversupply, while Supramax-Ultramax rates remained supported by limited availability of larger units. NOPAC and ECSA have been instrumental in absorbing excess tonnage from WCSA and WCCA, preventing further declines in Handysize rates. Looking ahead, September could close stronger if these supporting markets maintain their robustness to clear the remaining tonnage.
