West Coast South America (WCSA) dry cargo rates experienced notable upward movement this week, driven by a significant tightening of tonnage across all segments, particularly Supramax and Handysize, where fixture levels rose substantially. Supramax rates were assessed between USD 24,500 and USD 26,500, reflecting both demand and limited availability. While NOPAC activity remained subdued, anticipation of an increase in grain exports to WCCA is noted as grain houses adjust routes amid ongoing canal delays. If historical trends hold, a robust influx of September cargo could sustain this positive market momentum into the next month, underpinned by steady demand dynamics.
