The dry bulk fleet experienced a growth rate of 1.7 per cent in 2026, supported by strong deliveries amidst lower newbuilding orders. As of now, there are 1,329 vessels in the orderbook, representing 10.8 per cent of the current fleet. The fleet's age dynamics show 15.5 per cent of vessels are over 20 years old, indicating ongoing long-term pressures related to fleet aging. Despite fiscal challenges in the broader shipping market, strong freight rates have discouraged scrapping of older vessels, contributing to the current supply balance. The delivery of vessels scheduled for this year is expected to be the highest since 2015, which may help offset the impact of an aging fleet moving forward.
