LNG prices have surged this week, evidenced by notable indices such as the Spark25 and Spark30 reporting rates of USD 24,500 and USD 20,250 respectively. Despite this upward trend in prices, LNG freight rates struggled to gain traction, with owners trying to stimulate the market but only achieving marginal increases from the prior week. Spot fixtures remained active, with at least six reported, primarily balanced between the eastern and western markets. However, high cargo prices have heightened the premium on more modern vessels, complicating trades of less efficient tonnage. Amid rising costs, charterers have predominantly mitigated their immediate spot needs ahead of the upcoming Gastech event, resulting in a largely stable short-term market sentiment.
