After a relatively quiet May, newbuilding activity resumed in June, with crude oil tankers still favoured. Despite only being halfway through the year, there have been record VLCCs for a full calendar year already, while interest in Suezmaxes and MRs has also continued.
Deliveries for 2026 YTD have already almost matched those of the whole of 2025, (in the case of crude oil tankers, they have already exceeded last year's tally) while there was just the single demolition in June.
A steady raft of deliveries, and still very little demolition activity, has resulted in a steadily growing tanker fleet with an orderbook that appears particularly intimidating in 2028.
