Tanker Fleet Overview - June 2026

24 June 2026

24 more tankers were delivered in May, 18 of which were product tankers. Of these 18, 10 were MRs and five were LR2s, as these two sizebands continue to dominate. On the crude side, three VLCCs were delivered, joined by three Suezmaxes but no Aframaxes. In the first five months of 2026, 143 tankers were delivered, compared with just 70 during the same period last year.

Demolition figures have also surpassed those of the first five months of 2025. Still, for the first time since last May, just one tanker was demolished last month - an MR. 16 tankers have been demolished so far this year.

Finally, on the newbuilding side, May witnessed the third straight monthly decline in contracts. 29 tankers were ordered last month, the lowest since last August and far below April's 46 and January's 91. Crude tanker orders dwarfed those of product tankers, making up 23 of the 29. 18 VLCCs were ordered, followed distantly by six LR2s, four Suezmaxes, and an Aframax.
